Michelangelo DiDomenico Gibbons

Michael DiDomenico Gibbons is recognized internationally for a body of work that merges philosophical fine art, advanced technical engineering, and precision luxury craftsmanship within the contemporary medium of glass.

In 2010, Gibbons received formal Recognition of Artistic Excellence for exceptional merit among a competitive field of fine artworks, followed by recognition for pioneering advancements in glass layering, color integration, and structural composition. These developments established foundational systems that would later define his studio practice and approach to geometric precision in glass.

Born in Naples into a lineage of artisans from the Campania region, Gibbons developed an early understanding of structure, proportion, material sensitivity, and disciplined craftsmanship. Over time, these principles evolved into a contemporary artistic language distinguished by freestyle execution governed through geometric architecture, harmonic proportion, and intentional systems-based design.

His work is widely recognized for its unmistakable visual identity and the technical difficulty required to execute it at a repeatable mastery level. Utilizing rare, extinct, and technically volatile glass colors—many no longer in production—Gibbons applies disciplined control, symmetry, and precision through complex geometric methodologies rooted in the golden ratio and sacred proportional systems.

Throughout his career, Gibbons has been invited to conduct both private and public demonstrations at the Chrysler Museum of Art, presenting his approach to excellence in large-scale furnace work, refined lampworking methodologies, and advanced cold-working precision. His demonstrations emphasized not only artistic execution, but also the structural and engineering principles underlying high-level contemporary glass craftsmanship.

Under this philosophy, WYG Glass Hawai‘i was established as a precision-focused studio recognized for geometric glasswork, rare material integration, and museum-caliber execution. The studio operates as both a creative atelier and disciplined production environment, where innovation, structural consistency, and technical integrity remain central to every work produced.

Today, Gibbons’ practice stands apart for its synthesis of artistry and engineered precision—positioning his works not merely as contemporary glass objects, but as enduring collectible assets defined by rarity, execution, provenance, and timeless design logic.
